Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you’ll learn conversational phrases to answer the question, "What are you doing?" After watching this video, you’ll be able to answer this question and tell someone something about what you’re writing.
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
Unafanya nini?
Ninaandika shajara yangu.
Once more with the English translation.
Unafanya nini?
“What are you doing?”
Ninaandika shajara yangu.
“I'm writing my journal.”
First of all you'll need to learn how to say “What are you doing?”
That's: Unafanya nini?
Listen to it again: Unafanya nini?, Unafanya nini?
This Swahili sentence literally translates as “You are doing what?"
But it means “What are you doing?”
Now, how do you answer this question?
The pattern is:
Ninaandika [object].
“I'm writing [object].”
For example:
“I'm writing my journal.”
Ninaandika shajara yangu., Ninaandika shajara yangu.
