| Easter Monday is celebrated by all Christians, including those who live in Kenya. It is a day to commemorate the resurrection, or kufufuka, of Jesus Christ, three days after he was crucified. |
| This lesson will highlight the way Kenyans commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and how Kenyans show their hospitality. |

| Easter is always celebrated on a Sunday. People celebrate this day to symbolize the rebirth of Jesus in their lives. It’s also a day to worship the miracle of Jesus’s resurrection and triumph over death. |
| In preparation for Easter, people prepare different foods and eat after the fasting and praying on Good Friday. As fasting can be quite taxing on the body, those who fast typically choose to eat lighter foods such as porridge, seasoned rice, and fruit juice to enable the body to digest the food easily. Christian families gather together to read the Bible, or Biblia, and pray; afterwards, they eat and drink to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. |
| Easter Monday, or Jumatatu ya Pasaka, is also a Christian holiday but nowadays both Christians and pagans involve themselves in the celebration. Some of them go camping in places such as Naivasha, near the lake. Many Kenyans also like to go to the beach or to Mombasa and to wild animal parks. |
| Eggs, or mayai, make a plentiful appearance on this day to symbolize the beginning of new life. Eggs are festively decorated and given to friends to eat. They are also used to decorate the church during the Easter holiday. |
